Are You a Budding Naturalist?
Interested in Learning About Our Natural World?

Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon leads special youth oriented field trips, led by members of our Youth Outreach Committee ("YOC").

Our past trips have included Jones Beach, Montauk Point, a winter waterfowl walk, a nocturnal salamander excursion, a visit to feed the chickadees at Morton NWR and an exploration of the David Weld Sanctuary.

Upcoming trips will include birding, botany and general naturalist excursions! These trips are a wonderful way for kids and their parents to get out and enjoy nature with experienced guides!! The Youth Outreach Committee is also available to present programs on birding for clubs and scout groups. Loaner binoculars are available to those without their own. About Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon's Youth Outreach Committee

In November 2008, Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon Society formed a Youth Outreach Committee ("YOC") as a means of engaging teens in nature and conservation.

Stella Miller, Chapter President, mentors the members of the Committee, consisting of three teens: Brent Bomkamp, Brendan Fogarty and Vinny Pellegrino, by providing leadership training in fundraising, marketing, public relations, donor cultivation, and program development and coordination.

The YOC meets once a month to brainstorm program and project ideas. They manage a blog, write articles for the Chapter newsletter, lead a series of "Young Naturalist" field trips, conduct workshops for Cub Scouts, have given presentations at a senior center and are in engaged in a kestrel nest box project.
